How HyreADU works

The research side

Most of this site is research. We read ordinances, statutes and jurisdiction permit records, and publish what they actually say with the section, the geography and the retrieval date attached. Nothing on that side asks you for anything.

We are explicit about limits. Where the data is Californian we say California. Where a dataset is not public — the CalHFA grant program, for one — we record that as a gap rather than estimating around it. Our methodology sets out the rules we hold ourselves to.

The inquiry side, as it stands today

We will not overstate this. Our ADU professional matching is still being built. If you send an inquiry today, this is what actually happens:

1. You tell us about your project on the inquiry form.
2. It arrives in our inbox and we read it.
3. We follow up about your questions, and about what a thorough proposal should contain.
4. When matching opens in your area, we tell you. No builder or ADU company receives your details until you have agreed to it.

What we cannot do is quote your project or tell you whether your lot qualifies. Your planning department remains the authority on what is permitted at your address.

How we expect to be paid

Today the site earns nothing. We expect to earn revenue in future by introducing homeowners to ADU professionals. Homeowners will not be charged.

When that starts, it will be disclosed on the page rather than in a footnote, and it will not change what we say about feasibility, fees or financing. It is also why we do not publish rankings of named companies, and why how we vet is careful about the word "verified".

What we do not do

• We do not design, permit, build, finance, appraise or let ADUs.
• We do not supervise the work of any professional you are introduced to.
• We are not a party to any contract you sign with them.
• We do not guarantee price, timeline, workmanship or approval.
• We do not provide legal, financial, tax or engineering advice.

Corrections

If you find something wrong on this site, tell us and we will fix it and record what changed. Our editorial policy sets out how corrections are handled and how last-reviewed dates are maintained — a date on this site changes only when the content does.
